Security Line Blues
You might be one of the many, many people traveling this holiday season. You, along with millions of other people, all have one thing in common that defines your travel plans, the security line at the airport! This loathsome task separating you from the lounge section by the airplane door determines your itinerary from the moment you wake up on your joyous travel day. Well this year don’t be a part of the security line blues. Check out these 5 tips below to help you get through the line faster and one step closer to the welcoming phone charge stations on the other side.
Tip #1: Sign up for TSA’s PreCheck program. You can whiz through the line when you become a member of this new program that has already been accepted in over 40 airports worldwide. Sometimes they don’t even make you take your shoes off!
Tip #2: Check in online. Checking in online will let you bypass the gate altogether, if you have no bags to check, and go straight to the security check. You already have to join one line for the security, why would you want to make it two? Booking sites like Expedia and Orbitz have great features that email you your check-in information ahead of time making the check-in process extremely easy.
Tip #3: Dress for success. Simple clothing items can make the security line a breeze, especially in warmer climates. Slip on shoes make taking your shoes on and off much easier. Also avoid other things like a lot of jewelry, belts, clothes with metal on them, and tucking away your electronics.
Tip #4: Put your ID, Boarding Pass, and wallet in an easily accessible place. Having to dig through your purse or carry-on for these items will slow down the process, especially when you have to take them out multiple times during the check-in process. Have a designated pocket or place to keep these so you can reach them easily and also put them away securely.
Tip #5: Check security wait times. A lot of airports offer their real-time security wait times online. They also tell you when the highest wait time is to be expected versus the lowest. Use this information for your benefit and figure out how these times can fit into your itinerary best.
