US Airways merging with American Airlines
It came as a surprise when US Airways announced they would be merging with American Airlines but the excitement hasn’t ended since! We are only a few days away from the official start and then the slow fading of the US Airways brand will be completely gone. Check out the official countdown here! Within three months the two airlines will work on one reservation system, which means, get ready! Two airlines coming together means the possibility of many mistakes but with three months to work on them we’re sure the mess-ups will be minimal.
So what does this merger mean for you? Well the first milestone you might note is the two companies have already merged their loyalty programs. Now any points you collected for either airline will be applied towards American Airlines, and for some people, that could be pretty great. Of course the second milestone you might note is the expanded locations American Airlines will be adding to their flight schedule. If these locations look familiar, well you can figure that part out, they came from US Airways!
The last milestone will be the policies. Some of the policies, such as refunds and cancellations, are very different between the two companies and no one will know which ones will emerge until the completion of the process in October. This could mean an improvement in policies, or quite the opposite, depending on which ones your prefer. Either way we’ll be tracking the merger closely and will do our best to keep you all updated!
